Santa Fe Christian Students Travel Abroad to Encourage Others |
Santa
Fe Christian Schools lives out its’ vision of preparing Christian leaders
by giving students the opportunity to travel to countries around the world,
encouraging them to bring care and encouragement to Christians and non-Christians
alike. Over 80 students chose to give up sleeping in and going to
the beach to spend their Easter vacation serving others. |

Over
Spring Break, SFCS sent student teams to Thailand, France, Russia, and
closer to home, Texas. In Thailand, the students partnered with
the First Baptist Church of Udon Thani to build basketball courts, minister
in an orphanage and participate in a literature campaign in the local
parks. “In a place such as Thailand, the encouragement from other
Christians goes a long way to people who live in a society indifferent
to Christianity”, observed Paul Lyons, SFCS Director of Missions. |

The
Santa Fe Christian School’s mission program helps and encourages others
around the world AND makes a significant impact on the lives of the SFC
students. When asked about the impact on the student’s lives, Mr.
Lyons commented, “Not only are these students truly thankful for all they
have at home, but they return with a clearer vision of what their faith
means to them. Students have been taught faith by their parents
and here at school, but through these trips they gain a sense of self
that allows them to take ownership of their beliefs and values that will
stay with them for the rest of their lives”. |

Senior
Sara Bennett comments, “We take preparation for our mission trips seriously.
My four years of Spanish allowed me to communicate with the people on
my trip to the Dominican Republic last summer. We also learned about
the culture, the songs, and the people so we could understand them better.
I just got back from a week in Thailand where we had the privilege to
touch so many lives. I am humbled by what I see and experience each
time I get the opportunity to serve others in our community and abroad.
In college, I plan to major in international studies and minor in religion
to prepare me for service in the international mission field.” |

Two
additional mission trips are planned for this summer: Uganda and
the Dominican Republic. |
